What Is Telecommuting And Its Responsibility

telecommuting

Telecommuting is one term that many have been using in the past decade. The action of doing part of your work outside of the office can be attractive to many. However, many still take this opportunity for granted, or even dwindle their chance instead of maximizing it. Let’s know more about what it is and how you can optimize the situation.

The Responsibilities of Telecommuting

Everyone dreams of working from anywhere outside of the office area. It can be a café, home, beachside, or anywhere they want. However, being off-office doesn’t diminish the responsibilities and pressure of giving the best work.

The primary task of a teleworker is to work on time. You need to show that you’re doing your part for the team and not bringing them down. Never be late on submitting the tasks or make any mistake that will affect the team.

Keep in mind that the company also has a hand in encouraging their employees to have a hybrid work situation, in the office and at home. They can provide a healthy environment for the workers and give the flexibility or options to work remotely once in a while. All while keeping a balance of work and life to get the best from their employees.

Remote vs Teleworking

Many people think that working remotely equals teleworking. They often conflate both terms and use them interchangeably. The difference between remote and telework is the distance.

Working remotely means you can work from anywhere on Earth. Using the internet to connect with your teams through Slack or Microsoft Teams will be enough for remote workers to collaborate. While timezone can be a challenge, a remote worker may not have to come to the office at all.

Teleworking may be outside of the office, but you need to be close enough to come to the office at any moment. In short, you can’t be too far which requires a flight or long-haul transportation. This limits the distance into the city or only within several miles of the office. That is why, a most common example of a teleworker is a freelance agent who meets clients anywhere in the city, before returning to the office to do their report.

Improving the Teamwork

You may not realize that you’ve been doing it for a while. After all, not all positions allow the flexibility of teleworking. At any rate, it is a good chance for you to develop teamwork and build an efficient working culture. You can push your colleagues in a healthy competition to further optimize efficiency so the company can gain profit. Many studies show that workers with a hybrid working situation can bring more revenue to the company as they can keep their minds buzzing with new ideas.

Telecommuting can lead to an interesting work culture. Working from almost anywhere outside of the office is a dream that many employees are looking for. However, it comes with multiple burdens, especially showing that you can do your work well with minimum supervision, and juggling with your social life.
