CIVIL SOCIETIES ORGANISATION AND OTHERS DEMAND COMPENSATION FOR OIL AND GAS HOST COMMUNITIES.

Urbanisation and Industrialisation are said to be the major causes of pollution. There are harmful chemical contents such as hydrocarbons and other toxic chemicals which are released from oil and gas drills and spills. Residents of areas which are affected by this kind of pollutions are at numerous health risks.

Therefore, the attention of the Federal Government and Stakeholders in Oil and Gas sectors has been called towards the people of the Niger Delta region who have been affected negatively by the extraction of oil and gas. The extraction of this oil and gas companies has lowered the farmland’s productivity in the host communities.

Oil and Gas companies’ investors have been called to pay compensation to communities for the damages and loss the oil and gas extraction might have caused them.

Mr David Ugolar, the Executive Director, African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) has encourage oil and gas investors to make host communities to experience the impact of oil and gas company business in the Niger Delta.
