NAFDAC Warns Against The Use Of Weight Loss Capsule
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has advised Nigerians to refrain from taking a particular weight loss capsule which is known as “Weight Rapid Loss Capsule”.
The information was conveyed with the No. 049/2022 and it was signed by Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The capsule known as “Weight Rapid Loss Capsule” has been recently advertised on various social media platforms such as facebook, tweeter, instagram etc, thereby creating publicity for the drugs and making many people to buy and use the product but at the expense of their of their health.
The weight loss capsule which is tagged as the most effective weight loss supplement is a product of Ingi Oman, and contains a harmful substance known as “phenolphthalein”, a substance which was banned by the Food and Drug Administration of the United State because it is unsafe for consumption.
Phenolphthalein is toxic to the body and it can destroy the genes and damages the DNA. According to research, phenilphthalein contains microbial growth that is above the permissible limits and it has the potential of causing cancer.
Hence, the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control has urged members of the public who purchased the weight rapid loss capsule to discontinue the use of the product with immediate effect and return the remaining to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Therefore, public health professionals as well as members of the public are encouraged to report any negative effect caused by the product via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng
