Lula’s Key to Victory in Brazil Election
Based on many analyzes, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s victory in the second round of the Brazilian presidential election could not be separated from the key factor in the contribution of votes in big cities such as Fortaleza and São Paulo.
Two Decisive Key of Election Competition
Minas Gerais and Sao Paolo are the states that hold a third of the voter turnout and are pivotal points in this election.
The same incident as 4 years ago, where in the state of Sao Paulo the majority were Bolsonaro supporters. However, this time it was different due to the dominance of the PT in Sao Paulo, where it is the most populous metropolitan city in the country, and the PT won 1.2 million more votes than the second round in 2018 when Fernando Haddad was the candidate. This time the total vote for Lula was 3.6 million votes. Bolsonaro was the opposite; he had to lose 500,000 fewer votes than in the previous round.
The tradition in Minas Gerais continues, since 1989, the presidential candidate who can win the area will become the next president. With 50,000 votes there, Lula won by 50.1%, although Bolsonaro won in crowded cities like Contagem, Uberlandia, Belo Horizonte, and the Capital.
Deforestation Becomes the Main Battle
Captain Chainsaw was Bolsonaro’s nickname for his citizens during his tenure. That’s because the Amazon is experiencing the worst deforestation on record in Brazil’s history. Lula saw it well and promised to stop it if he was elected.
In the municipalities that are considered to have suffered the most deforestation damage in 2019-2022 Bolsonaro actually won in three of the four municipalities.
Nationally Bolsonaro won by 44%. This value is a much larger proportion when compared to the proportion of the municipality. This raises the possibility that a thriving local economy coupled with deforestation has actually increased Bolsonaro’s popularity in the area.
In his political promise, Lula will protect and guarantee the rights of the 900,000 indigenous people within the state. Candidates from PT were even seen telling their political opponents that they had no respect for the Amazon and said they would forbid any invasion of customary lands for illegal mining, which was stated during one of the debates broadcast on TV.
The city, which is partly indigenous, gave Lula the most votes. A total of 15 states and 32 municipalities were won by PT, on the other hand, Bolsonaro only won in 3 states and 9 cities.
Lula’s Way to a Tight Victory
The determination of presidential election in Brazil is through general elections and nothing is done through universities. In the second round, Bolsonaro was considered successful in consolidating in several states so that he could get an additional 70% of the vote, while Lula only added 30%. However, Lula’s victory in big cities has provided important points for Lula’s victory.
Bolsonaro won in Amapa state in the second round, previously PT won in this area. It is reported that in Amapa the turnout has decreased by 8% which is quite impressive. That is the discussion and some points about the key to Lula’s victory as president in the Brazilian election.
