Inspector-General Of Police Sentenced to three-Month Imprisonment.

Mr. Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police has been sentenced to three-month imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Inspector-General has been sentenced due to his non-compliance to the court’s legal order to restore Patrick Okoli to his former position in the Nigerian Police Force.

According to Justice Bolaji Olajuwon, the Inspector-General failed to comply with the court order which was contained in a letter dated 5th May 2009, directing him to restore Patrick Okoli to his position according to the recommendation of the commission, a decision which was concurred by the court but failed to be complied by the Inspector-General.

Patrick Okoli claimed that he was compulsorily and unlawfully retired from service, thereby adding that, as a senior officer in the Nigerian Police Force, his rights and privileges were denied.

Meanwhile, Justice Olajuwon has also ordered that the Inspector-General will continue to be detained if he fails to comply with the court order at the end of the three months.
Moreover, the court ordered that payment of N10m damages be made to Patrick Okoli.
