ECOWAS Appreciate Nigerian Government For a Peaceful And Safe Environment for The General Elections
The Government of the Economic Community of West African States alongside the Authority of Heads of State has appreciated the effort of the Federal Government of Nigeria for making provisions for a safe and conducive atmosphere for the forthcoming general elections.
The recommendation was made through an official statement which was signed by the president of the Republic of Guinea as well as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority, Umaro Embalo on Sunday 19th February 2023.
It could be recalled that on February 18th, 2022, the African Union Assembly held an Extraordinary Summit in Addis, Ababa. The summit aimed at evaluating the readiness and preparation for the upcoming elections in countries such as Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone.
In the statement, Omar Touray, the president of the ECOWAS commission appreciates and seeks support for the countries in the forthcoming elections.
Recommending the effort of the Nigerian government towards securing a safe environment for the elections to be conducted peacefully, the Heads of State together with the government advised the president of the Commission to ensure that logistics and other technical equipment are made available and on time for the general elections.
Electoral personnel is also advised to pay undivided attention and be good observant and at all times maintain the ethics and principles guiding the electoral processes.
