Court Ordered Oxlade To Pay N5 Million Damages To Woman Over Leaked Sex Tape

A Federal High Court in Ikeja has ordered Ikuforijimi Olaitan Abdulrahman popularly known by his stage name Oxlade to pay N5 million damages to a lover over a leaked sex tape he disseminated on various social media platforms and Snapchat.

Justice Olalekan Oresanya who frowned over the singer’s action described him as classless, contemptible, distasteful, and terrible.
The judgment, dated 24th January 2023, involved a trending video released by singer Oxlade when we were making love to a woman and capturing the scene without the woman’s consent and thereafter leaked the video on different social media.

Blessing John whose sex tape with Oxlade was leaked by the singer without her consent, therefore filed a case on the 15th of March, 2022, demanding the singer to pay her N20 million as damages.

According to the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 as amended, sections 34 and 37 and the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) ACT CAP A 9 LFN, 2004, articles 5 kicks against violating one’s freedom of fundamental rights to dignity, privacy, as well as discrimination, which singer Oxlade violated.

The defense council, E. T. Idemudia and O. S. Mabekoje alongside U. R. Micheal said the judgment would be carried out when the two parties involved agreed to resolve the issue amicably through a consent judgment. Justice Oresanya Olalekan warned the singer never to repeat the same in a future relationship with the opposite sex or any other person.

Justice Olalekan noted that the singer showed no respect and regard for the judicial processes as he refused to honor the court invitation and used his celebrity status as an excuse. Meanwhile, through the consent judgment, Oxlade has been ordered to pay N5 million in damages to Blessing. Being considerate, the court ordered him to pay the money in two installments, N2 million and N3 million according.
