Onitsha Main Market Engulfed By Fire.

Onitsha main market considered one of the largest markets in West Africa due to its volume of goods and geographical size has been razed by fire.

It was gathered that, on Monday, around 1:00 am, certain shops located at Kano Street at the main market were engulfed by fire.
Engr Martin Agbili, the fire chief who disclosed the incident also confirmed that men of the State Fire Service were immediately deployed to the scene to extinguish the fire.

Though the cause of the fire is yet to be known, Obenta June, a trader in the said market, added that the fire consumed two block shops in the market.

However, according to eyewitnesses, efforts by firefighters to extinguish the fire proved abortive, as the fire continued to raze. The fire destroyed several goods such as wigs, ladies’ wear, cosmetics, perfumes, and many properties worth millions of naira.
Describing the incident as terrible, Martin assured that the situation is under control.
