NDLEA Seizes and Destroy 24.6 Illicit Drugs In Kwara State.

In a bid to curb the menace of drug abuse perpetuating in the country, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday in Illorin seized and destroyed 24.6 tonnes of illegal drugs as well as other psychotropic substances.

According to the information gathered, all illegal drugs seized were destroyed on Wednesday. Abdulrahman AbduRazap, the governor of Kwara State who expressed happiness towards the effort of the NDLEA also promised to support the Agency in the fight against drug abuse in the State and Nigeria at large.

It could be recalled that in 2018, Kwara State was regarded as one of the states with a high rate of drug abuse, expressing his satisfaction, the governor recommended the agency for being proactive and changing the situation of the State and vowed to support and encourage the agency.

Dr. Raji Razaq, the Commissioner of Health who represented the wife of the governor, pointed out that, there is a greater need for a new survey to be conducted across the country so as to confront the situation appropriately. Speaking on the issue, Mr. Alhaji Ibrahim Saidu, NDLEA commander in Kwara State, noted that, 171 drug dealers and traffickers have been convicted in 2022.
