ASUU makes U-turn On Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has made a U-turn by embarking on another strike to express their dissatisfaction over their 8-month withheld salaries over the issue of the ‘no work, no pay’ policy implemented by the Federal Government.
Yesterday, members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities had an intensive National Executive Meeting, NEC, which was held in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The union in the meeting resolved to conduct a nationwide protest rally instead of embarking on another strike, according to the Union, the rally will be an avenue for them to express their dissatisfaction towards the Federal Government regarding their withheld salaries.

During the NEC meeting, ASUU also resolved to collaborate with stakeholders and see positive measures which can be implemented to tackle the frequent face-off between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

The union has given the Federal Government adequate time to meet their demand, a source with undisclosed identity revealed that the Union has called on prominent Nigerians such as Rt, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker of the House of Representatives and the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Abuja came to their aid and intervene.

Meanwhile, the absenteeism of some of the Union’s members to the NEC meeting was attributed to a lack of finance and logistics as they could not afford to get a flight.

If the government fails to meet their demand, their next decision should not be questioned, as they’ve shown enough endurance and patience, the Union says.
