Panic As Angry Youths Protest Over Naira Scarcity

Following the Central Bank Of Nigeria Policy that certain Naira notes would cease to be recognized as legal tender effective 17th of February, angry youths have stormed and blocked major roads to protest for the discontinuation of the old Naira notes when the new ones are not fully circulated.

The protesters in the early hours of Friday blocked Ketu, Ikorodu, Mile 12, Ojota area, Mowe, Abeokuta, etc, to express their dissatisfaction over the Central Bank of Nigeria Policy.

The protesters ordered business centers to close immediately. Major roads such as the Lagos Ibadan expressway in Mowe have been shot down with bonfires all over the road with no vehicles allowed and with heavy gunshots.

Speaking with one of the protesters who pleaded anonymity described the Nigerian government as draconian, and lamented that many people are still with the old Naira notes while the government has ceased it to be recognized as legal tender.

“They do not consider the poor masses, they make decisions without considering how it would affect the general public, many of us are still with the old Naira notes especially N1000, business owners are no longer collecting them, even transporters. We cannot throw our hard-earned money away, so we need the government to extend the deadline and circulate the newly redesigned Naira notes”.

Motorists and passengers were seen going back in fear as there is a bonfire on the major roads.
Meanwhile, three persons have been reportedly killed at Mowe bus stop, Ogun State. However, parents and guardians have been advised to rush to schools and take their children and wards back home as the situation is getting more terrifying and out of control.
