Court Seals Four Brothels in River State over Human Trafficking

COURT SEALS FOUR BROTHELS IN RIVERS STATE OVER HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Corruption may be likened to a cancer worm that has eaten so deep into the fabrics of the Country, leaving behind Socio-economic effects on the citizens.

However, human trafficking brings reproach to a Country, it hurts the victims and their well-being, it deteriorate a Country’s image and sabotage the rule of law. In an effort to curb the menace, in October 29, 2022, Royale and Cool Breeze Brothels were invaded by Nigeria Navy Ship with collaboration with Pathfinder, NAPTIP and NSCDC. The girls were reportedly said to be forced into prostitution. While the underage girls were rescued, their suspected traffickers were arrested as well.

Meanwhile, the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) with collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) carried out an order given to them by the Federal High Court on Friday 11, November, that four brothels along Azikiwe street, Mile 2 Diobu, at Port Harcourt, Rivers State be sealed for suspected human trafficking.

The court document quote the Federal Government of Nigeria as the complainant, the brothels which are Royale brothel, Cool breeze 1,2,3 were all quoted with the suit no FHC/PH/MISC/419/2022 and were all referred to as defendants.
However, the Jude gave the directives that the brothels should be sealed for thirty days until investigations are concluded.
Following the case adjournment, Rivers State NAPTIP Commander, Nwamaka Ikediashi said the suspects who were arrested will definitely be charged to court when investigation is completed.
